Duke

05/15/2017

Duke spends his days running his award winning micro-brewery and craft gin distillery. He fills every ounce of spare time creating bespoke furniture from reclaimed timber, growing his own organic fruit and vegetables to share at his local farmer’s market and fostering rescue animals from his farm nestled away in rural Victoria. He’s a humble soul who believes working hard at what you love is the key to happiness in life.

For me, Duke was the most fun to create; who doesn’t love an alpaca, right!? As I sketched Duke, I imagined him smartly dressed in the ultimate early 70’s mod folk fashion, classic hipster haircut and facial hair, all the trimmings, the full meringue!

At first I was a little worried about how he would look, I stressed over which stitches to use and whether or not the waves of his mop-like hair would evolve once it was stitched. But then, the more I stitched Duke, the more excited I was – It took every strength I had to not take pictures and post them on social media to share with you all!

Stitching Duke also lead to the creation of the “Keanu Weaves” stitch which is perfect for stitching all of those flannel and checked hipster shirts, and it comes together rather quickly too! I’ve stitched Duke’s shirt using the Indi thread, but can you just imagine all of the other colours stitched in Keanu Weaves?!

Duke also includes a pattern for his retro telephone. I’ve chosen to just stitch the lines for this design, but you could stitch it any way you like.

The pattern for Duke’s favourite quote is also included. Seeing his hoop art on his bedroom wall every morning when he wakes up pushes him to Hustle – there’s 24 useful hours in every day!

You can find Duke’s pattern here or at your local fabric & stitchy store, and you can watch the stitch tutorial on my freebies page soon!
