Amy Morgan is a young designer from country Victoria, who’s on a mission to inspire the younger generation with all things sewing and patchwork!
Under her design name Amy Kallissa, Amy uses the strong foundations built by our fore-mothers together with fresh fabric and quirky details to create her gorgeous range of clever designs.
Amy Kallissa patterns are graphically designed to suit both learners and experts by providing step by step photographic and coloured diagram instructions and patterns that are inspired by the growing need for, stash-busting projects for those nimble needle-pushers with limited time on their hands who seek more manageable and gratifying, weekend-achievable projects.
Sewing has always been a big part of my life, my Mum introduced me to patchworking at the ripe old age of two days old, (yep!). I don’t exactly remember being bundled up and handed around a table of patchworkers as my mum continued her passion of sewing, but can you honestly think of a better way to grow up!?!? – I can’t!
I think the earliest quilt I can remember having is a hand stitched patchwork quilt that was made by both my Mum and my Granny. It was all blue and white Laura Ashley fabrics, (I hated pink until at least the age of 13!). I still have the quilt, and always list it as one of the first things that I’d grab in the event that I’d be evacuated from my house.
Through high school I cheated on sewing – I was a little embarrassed by my handy skill set – but coming back to the needle and thread was like coming home. It wasn’t until 2009 that I started mucking around with some of my sketches and turning them into fabric appliqués for friends and family, my passion had been rekindled and my fabric stash was clearly out of the closet – so to speak!
I spend most days in my studio designing, sewing and drinking copious amounts of tea and teaching sewing classes.
