Thanks so much for purchasing my pattern and supporting my business! The Homestead Quilt is one of my favourites! I didn’t use one sole fabric range for this quilt, just lots of bits and pieces from my stash; there’s some Liberty Tana Lawn in there, some canvas weight/linen fabrics, some yarn dyed wovens (checks) and even some hand screen printed fabrics too, along with some gorgeous quilting weight cottons.
As I mention in the pattern, this design is inspired by what’s known as Wagga Quilts; these quilts were made out of necessity rather than for pleasure or beauty and primarily made out of all sorts of bits and pieces of fabrics from old clothing, flour sacks, etc. so sometimes the more the fabrics clash with each other, the more iconic this quilt can look! With this in mind, I also like to frequent my local Op Shops (thrift shops) and always keep a look out for interesting fabrics in the old table cloths, souvenir tea towels and bed sheets as they can make great feature pieces!
